How to Become a Better Writer
By Sharon Capehart
If you want to become a writer and do not have any experience with writing, the best thing to do is to sign up for some writing classes depending on your area of interest. There are different types of writing such as creative writing, business writing, academic writing, technical writing, resume writing, and article writing. What you decide to do is determined by what you really enjoy doing.
A writer has to have certain skills in order to be successful. These skills will determine if your writing is good enough for the reader. You should have a good sense of vocabulary. Your grammar and spelling has to be good. These things are important to maintain a flow in your writing for whoever will be reading it.
Writing is an art, but it can also be learned. A college course in journalism is usually what most writers strive to take. However, if you are not in college or want to take a college course, you can choose to take a course in writing at a community college or adult night school.
When it comes to the act of writing, you should have a keen sense of what you want to write about. You also need to make sure that you have an outline. This helps you to stay on course with what you are writing about.
Your outline should include an introduction, the body of the text and the conclusion. If you write in that order, your story will make sense to the reader. It will also help you finish the project much sooner, if you know what the end result will be.
Becoming a writer is not for everyone. However, it can be a very fulfilling and therapeutic experience for those who decide to take that course. A writer holds so many other people's lives in the penmanship of a story, an article or a book. There are so many writers who have gone on before us, but yet have left a legacy that is still touching so many peopel. So if you have the gift of writing and are not using it to your full potential, you are indeed cheating your counterparts of something really great.
Whether you are writing a letter, a business proposal, an article, a book, a report, a guide, a manual, or a resume, writing well is very essential to what you are trying to convey to your audience.
As long as you have a certain passion about writing, you could be the next award winning writer. However, you have to be able to work alone (that is what makes most writers unique) and you have to know how to mix your words in such a fashion as to make it appealing and thought provoking.
Words are magic and you are the magician. Being in love with those words makes you a better writer. You must also love your audience and care about what you contribute and make available to them. Use your life experiences as your main start and you will be able to give back more to those who become your readers.
